Lead Construction Technician

Lead Construction Technician : Midlands

Our illustrious client is the leading supplier of products and services to the UK Petroleum Industry.
They believe strongly in growing their employees and providing excellent career opportunities.
Due to business expansion they currently have an exciting opportunity for an Installation Technician based in the Midlands area close to main arterial routes.
The role will involve extensive travel throughout the UK

The ideal candidate must be prepared to work away from home (this will be on a very regular basis), have a full UK driving licence and be prepared to work as part of a team.
Must have good communication qualities with a basic understanding of IT, including email

The installation team currently have a heavy workload and a lot of travelling/overnight stays therefore flexibility is imperative, at present the team are earning high levels of overtime due to this.


Principal Objectives:

• Work as part of and leading the Installations team undertaking general building duties and groundwork

Key Responsibilities:

• General Building duties e.g. digging out, breaking out, kerb laying, preparing and mixing concrete
• Setting out levels
• Working from Drawings
• Assist in Installation tasks including storage tank installations, petroleum installs and commercial equipment installations
• Assist in estimating costs of overheads, materials, labour and equipment for use in tenders
• Assist in planning methodology for each project stage and monitoring progress against agreed completion dates
• Preparation of construction sites prior to commencement of works
• Assist the technicians in checking the quality of suppliers and negotiating cost-effective prices
• Demonstrate safe working practices at all times, adhering to H&S legislation and Company H&S rules and procedures
• Other duties as required

As per Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Employee’s must also

• Take care of their own health and safety and that of others
• Co-operate with their employers
• Not interfere with anything provided in the interest of health and safety

Skills & Abilities Required (Essential):

• Good communication skills
• Experience of Leading a team of civils/Building People
• Formal building industry related qualifications or practical building experience
• Be able to read working drawings
• Be able to work without guidance
• Be able to use own initiative
• Methodical approach
• Mechanical aptitude
• Some knowledge of engineering practices
• Team player
• Flexible approach to work including travel and hours
• Willing to work away from home for long periods of time
• Be willing to work away from home potentially for long periods at a time
• Must have vast knowledge of Setting out using Laser Level
• Full current UK driving licence
• SMSTS/SSSTS

Skills & Abilities Required (Desirable):

• IPAF
• PASMA
• Abrasive Wheel
• Roller

• 360 Machine license below 10T/Above 10T
• Dumper License
• CSCS Card

Additional

• Once in position candidate to receive training in line with Health & Safety Law.
• Basic schematic drawing
• Product and skills training as required
